New Delhi: In what could be bad news for CBSE students, the Human Resource and Development (HRD) Ministry is considering a proposal to bring back class 10th board exams in schools. However, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said that they have not been consulted by the government yet.
The move is likely to be discussed in the next Central Advisory Board of Education meeting. The meeting is expected after a month or two.
This is a second such decision that if implemented, might bring a big reversal in the education policy.
The decision comes after HRD Minister Smriti Irani talked to some students about this and they suggested that board exams should be brought back, the sources said.
Former HRD Minister Kapil Sibal had made Class 10th board exams optional in 2011, as part of an education system overhaul.
In the new system the marks were replaced by grades that were awarded after a continuous and comprehensive evolution over the academic year. The grading system aimed at reducing pressure on students.
