Kathmandu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at a retreat that will be organised in Kathmandu after the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke to Pakistan's National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz. Swaraj had on Monday said that it will be clear by Tuesday whether the two PMs will have a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the SAARC visit. However, Aziz had maintained that there was no plan for any such an interaction between the two leaders.
Modi will be reaching Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon to attend the 2-day SAARC summit which begins on Wednesday. In a jam-packed schedule, Modi will be flagging off a Kathmandu-New Delhi bus service and will also inaugurate a hospital. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Nepalese PM Sushil Koirala. Later in the evening, Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav will be hosting a banquet for Modi.
